Congratulations to Alissa Klingelhoets on the reception of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses!
Hayward Area Memorial Hospital & Water’s Edge announce Alissa Klingelhoets as winner of the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

Alissa Klingelhoets, RN
(August 8, 2023) Alissa Klingelhoets, RN was presented with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, recognizing the wonderful care she provides.
The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program that honors nurses for the compassionate care they provide to their patients and families every day. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses has been adopted by over 3,000 healthcare facilities around the world to celebrate nurses for their extraordinary care and compassion.
Alissa works in the hospital’s medical-surgical unit, caring for patients who need hospitalization for a variety of reasons, such as illness, surgery, testing, or observation. It is a complex unit of nursing requiring a variety of skills. Nurses must make decisions quickly with great medical skills while supporting patients emotionally through challenging times.
She was nominated for the DAISY Award by Kathy Bailey. In the nomination letter, Kathy explains how Alissa provided the support she needed. “She was mentally, physically, and professionally there for me,” Kathy says. “She made me more comfortable by noticing things that she could ask the doctor about that would ease my discomfort.”
Being a former nurse herself, Kathy stated her understanding of the demands of the job. But she didn’t feel short on care or attention here at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital. “There were a lot of kind and skilled nurses during my stay. I would definitely recommend this hospital and staff for their excellent care.” Kathy goes on to explain her impression of Alissa. “[She was] just talking to me about my life, which I greatly appreciated in my state of fogginess. Thank you, Alissa!”

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Hayward Area Memorial Hospital & Water’s Edge presents two DAISY awards to extraordinary nurses each year. Anyone can nominate a special nurse for the DAISY Award. If you would like to nominate a special nurse please fill out a nomination form here.
