Hayward Area Memorial Hospital would like to introduce General Surgeon, Dr. David Lynn. Dr. Lynn, MD, FACS, attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine, and completed his residency at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Dr. Lynn is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow with the American College of Surgeons and is certified in Da Vinci Robotic Surgery.
His surgical practice encompasses the full spectrum of general surgery.
He most commonly uses robotics for hernia repairs, gallbladder surgery, colon resections and anti-reflux surgery. He also performs upper and lower endoscopies, and provides care for breast cancer, melanoma and skin cancers, thyroid disease, and hemorrhoids.
“I believe in a patient-centered approach to medicine. Every patient is unique and deserves the time and attention required to understand and treat them as a person, not as a disease,” says Dr. Lynn. I treat all my patients as individuals, while leveraging the most current, up to date technology and surgical techniques available, including robotic surgery.”
Dr. Lynn served as a General Surgeon in the United States Army. “During my military service, I had the privilege of serving as the commander for an airborne Forward Surgical Team, as well as deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan.”
He credits his military service with giving him a different perspective on life and instilling the values of honor, integrity, selfless service, and personal courage, as well as the ability to focus in different environments, and adapt and overcome challenges.
He has also held academic positions as an Associate Professor for Tufts University in Massachusetts and Methodist University in North Carolina. He is an Advanced Trauma Life Support Instructor.
In his former position Dr. Lynn lead the effort to establish a robotic general surgery program. “Dr. Lynn will use expertise, experience, and knowledge to expand our General Surgery program to include robotic assisted surgery,” said Luke Beirl, Chief Executive Officer. “Robotic surgery allows the surgeon to perform more complex surgery in a minimally invasive way to improve patient outcomes, reduce recovery time, pain and surgical complications.”
Dr. Lynn and his wife Tracy look forward to being part of the community. He enjoys spending time with his sons, ages nine and seven and staying fit through exercise including weight training and outdoor activities. His family is rounded out by two golden retrievers and a gecko.
Specialty Services of HAMH takes a team approach to patient care. Dr. Lynn will work closely with Certified Physician Assistant, Katie Sherman. Katie completed her Physician Assistant training with the University of Wisconsin-Madison. As an avid runner and cross country skier, Katie looks forward to spending a lot of time exploring area trails with her family.
Dr. Lynn will work closely with primary care physicians and advanced practice professionals to determine the most appropriate treatments for patients. No referral is needed and he will begin seeing patients in Hayward in November. You can schedule your appointment to see Dr. Lynn by calling 715-934-4850.
