Hayward Hospital Auxiliary Changes Name
The governing board of the Hayward Hospital Auxiliary recently voted to change the name of the 67 year old organization to “Partners of Hayward Area Memorial Hospital & Water’s Edge”. Partners is the name used by the statewide volunteer groups who work to support their local hospitals and educate the public on issues that affect the healthcare of their communities. The name change will bring the Hayward group into alignment with the state organization.
“The Board of Directors and representatives from HAMMWE also felt that the term “Partners” reflects more accurately the relationship between the hospital and our group,” said Denise Williams, Partners President, “We are truly Partners in how we interact and work together.”
The Hayward Hospital Auxiliary has played a role in the growth of the local hospital since 1953 when one of their earliest projects was to hold “in gatherings” of canned food and garden surplus to help feed hospitalized patients. The group of women worked tirelessly to assist the recently opened hospital and their work has been carried on by the local Auxiliary.
Current work of the organization includes providing blankets for chemo patients to use during and following treatment, baby books for every OB family and stuffed animals for children needing surgical care. Partners also created the Department Dreams program which supports projects that enhance the patient, resident and tenant experience. Examples of Department Dreams programs include resident fieldtrips to places like Wilderness Walk and memory books for Water’s Edge residents. The Lifeline Medical Alert system, Gift/Coffee Shop and community education and advocacy are also supported by Partners.
During the COVID-19 pandemic they developed the Partners helping Partners program to support the wellbeing of staff, residents and tenants. Projects included care packages for residents and tenants, special treats for staff and the donation of facemasks.
